What is Traditional Screed?
Traditional screed, also known as sand and cement screed, is a common method used in construction to create a smooth and level surface for various floor coverings.
Consisting of varying proportions of sand, cement and water, this type of screed is typically mixed onsite and installed by skilled workers who employ straight edges and power floats to achieve a flat surface.
Advantages
Cost-effective: Traditional screeding is often more cost-effective compared to other floor screeding methods.
Suitable for various projects: Traditional sand and cement screeding is versatile and suitable for a wide range of projects, including residential, commercial, and industrial applications.
Compatible with underfloor heating: This type of screed is compatible with underfloor heating systems, providing an effective thermal mass.
Fast Drying Additives
Fast drying screed additives, such as Retanol, are formulated to expedite the curing process of floor screeds, significantly reducing the time required for them to set and harden.
Fast drying additives typically contain accelerators that enhance the chemical reactions responsible for the screed's solidification. Their use is especially advantageous in construction projects with tight timelines, allowing for quicker progression to subsequent phases of the building process.
Screed Fibres
Screed fibres are typically composed of polypropylene or glass and can be incorporated into traditional floor screeds to enhance their strength and durability.
These fibres form a supportive network within the screed, providing increased tensile strength and minimizing the risk of cracks. Their addition is particularly beneficial in high-stress areas, contributing to the overall longevity and structural integrity of the floor surface.
